Local Rules – Rules Guide 01 October 2024:
These regulations pertain exclusively to competitions held by the Inbetweeners Golf Social Club and may not reflect the local rules of the golf course.
It is important to note that the rules outlined here are specific to the club’s events and should be referenced accordingly during competitions.
Participants should ensure they are familiar with these guidelines to maintain compliance during play.
As we transition to the World Handicap System (WHS), it is prudent to consider their recommendations concerning the use of forward tees.
While the WHS permits players to choose any tee regardless of age, individual clubs may implement age restrictions as part of their local regulations.
In light of this, the Inbetweeners Golf Society has established that male senior players aged 70 and above are permitted to utilize the forward tee.
However, they must notify the Handicap Secretary at least two weeks before the commencement of the 2025 season.
It is important to note that opting for the forward tee will result in a 7-point reduction in the player’s handicap.
Local Rule – Preferred Lies – (This rule is commonly applied across Spain)
When any portion of a player’s ball makes contact with the general area that is maintained at fairway height or lower, the player is entitled to free relief. This can be executed by placing the original ball or a substitute ball within the designated relief area and playing from there.
The reference point for this relief is the location of the original ball, which must be indicated by a marker such as a tee peg or ball marker.
The relief area extends six inches from this reference point, subject to certain restrictions: it must not be positioned closer to the hole than the reference point and must remain within the general area.
1. A ball is considered lost if it cannot be located within three minutes after the player initiates a search. If a ball is discovered during this period but its ownership is uncertain, the player is required to make a prompt effort to identify it, as outlined in Rule 7.2. The player is permitted a reasonable amount of time for this identification process, which may extend beyond the initial three-minute search duration. This allowance includes sufficient time to reach the location of the ball if the player is not already present there.
2. A ball is deemed out of bounds only when it is entirely beyond the boundary edge of the course. Conversely, a ball remains in bounds if any portion of it is either resting on or touching the ground or any object—natural or artificial—within the boundary. Additionally, a player is permitted to stand outside the boundary to play a ball that is situated on the course.
Local Rule – Tree Roots
Relief from Tree Roots in General Play
Objective. In instances where exposed tree roots are present in the general play area of the course, it may be deemed unjust to deny players the opportunity to seek relief from these roots.
The Society has decided to classify these tree roots as ground under repair, permitting free relief in accordance with Rule 16.1b.
However, this relief is restricted to situations where the roots interfere with the ball’s lie and the area of the intended swing, excluding any impact on the player’s stance..
A ball that comes to rest in a bunker that has not been properly raked may be relocated to the nearest well-raked area within the bunker, provided it is not positioned closer to the hole.
